CONSULTATIVE MEETING HELD IN SHENZHEN, CHINA ON 7TH and 8TH DECEMBER 2019 AND LAUNCH OF THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ONLINE EDUCATION (IIOE)

Prof. Harriet Kidombo in Shenzhen, China between 7th and 8th December 2019, when she attended a meeting to launch the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) under the auspices of UNESCO-ICHEI. The participants included 11 Partner Higher Education Institutions in Africa and Asia namely; Cambodia, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uganda.

CONSULTATIVE MEETING HELD IN SHENZHEN, CHINA ON 7TH and  8TH DECEMBER 2019 AND LAUNCH OF THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ONLINE EDUCATION (IIOE)

Prof. Harriet Kidombo attended a meeting on 7th and 8th December 2019 in Shenzhen, China whose main objective was to launch the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) under the auspices of UNESCO-ICHEI. The participants included 11 Partner Higher Education Institutions in Africa and Asia namely; Cambodia, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uganda.

The objective of IIOE is to address the challenge of development and implementation of quality courses especially those related to ICT in developing countries. 

In the two day meeting the overall structure and Quality Assurance mechanism and the online platform for course resources of IIOE was presented.  Partner Universities also presented on the development and demand of online higher education in their countries.  There were also demonstrations of smart classrooms by some of the Partner Institutions.

The meeting ended with the launch of the IIOE and signing of the Cooperation Framework Agreement between the Partner Institutions and UNESCO-ICHEI. Professor Abdel-Fattah Saoud, the Vice Chancellor of Ain Shams University, Egypt was unanimously elected as the first rotating President.

It was also announced that;

  1. Six (6) Master teachers will be selected and trained in every Partner Institution
  2. Two (2) student scholarships for each of the 11 Partner Institutions will be given by Southern University of Science and Technology.

The participants visited various enterprises including Createview Education Technologies Limited which is in the process of installing smart Classrooms at the University of Nairobi.
