Having worked closely with Self-Help groups, she is enlightened on some of the challenges facing these groups. Influence of women leadership on performance of self help group projects: a case of migwani green gram project, kitui county, kenya.

Project  Abstract

Self-help group projects globally  have been key  in empowering women economically and socially. A major challenge facing Self help groups is in  leadership. This study sought to investigate the influence of women leadership in Self -Help groups; A case of Migwani green gram Self Help group project. The objectives of the study were;  To examine the influence of management skills of women leaders, To establish the influence of communication skills, To determine the influence of leadership traits and To examine the combined influence of management, communication and leadership traits of women leaders on performance of migwani green gram project in Kitui County. The study used descriptive research design. The target population was 1880 members and leaders of Migwani green gram project and a sample size of 95. Data collected was analysed using statistical package for social scientist (SPSS). Inferential statistics were done using Person moment of correlation analysis to establish relationships between dependent and independent variables. The results of the study show; management skills (r=0.997) where p<0.01, Communication (r= 0.947), leadership trait (r= 0.985) had significant relationship on performance of self-help group projects. The study found that Women leaders who had been trained on management skills had a positive impact on their self-help groups. It was also established that communication skills and leadership traits of women leader positively influence performance of self-help group.  The study found out that women leaders were not utilizing social media platforms (Facebook, Whats app). The study recommends on training of leaders of self-help group project to improve the performance of the group.
