Influence of Stakeholder Involvement Strategies on Performance of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Projects Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa-Bay County, Kenya
Project Abstract
The challenges associated with Orphan and Vulnerable Children are still evident in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is so even with the existence of non-profit organizations such as community based organizations (CBOs), non-government organizations (NGOs) and Faith Based Organizations. The purpose of the study was to establish the influence of stakeholder involvement strategies on performance of OVC projects in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa-Bay County. The study sought to address the following four objectives; influence of stakeholder empowerment strategy, stakeholder participation strategy, stakeholder consultation strategy and stakeholder information sharing strategy on performance of OVC projects in Rachuonyo North Sub-County. The study was anchored on two theories; Resource Dependence theory and Stakeholders’ Theory. The study used descriptive survey research design. The target population comprised of 588 stakeholders from 6 identified Orphan and Vulnerable Children projects within Rachuonyo North Sub county implementing OVC projects with a sample population size of 116. Stratified and simple random sampling was used to select the respondents. Self-administered questionnaires was used to collect quantitative data and interview schedules used to collect qualitative data from the project managers, Caregivers, government officials and committee members. Both descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyze qualitative and quantitative data respectively using SPSS a tool. The data was presented using tables. From the findings, the study established that, there was a weak positive correlation between Stakeholder Empowerment Strategy and Performance of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Projects and the relationship is significant. Secondly, the study established that there was a weak positive correlation between independent variable ‘Stakeholder Participation Strategy’ and dependent variable ‘Performance of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Projects. Thirdly, fairly weak positive correlation between Stakeholder Consultation Strategy and Performance of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Projects and the relationship is statistically significant. Finally, the study found that weak positive correlation between Stakeholder Information Sharing Strategy and Performance of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Projects and the relationship is statistically significant. From the finding, the study therefore recommended that projects implementing OVC projects should embrace these stakeholder involvement strategies to enhance the performance of the projects.
