Student Short Biography
Mark Ekiru Narengo hails from Turkana County in Kenya. He works with the world food program as the regional technical and strategic advisor on resilience, livelihoods and asset creation. He has over 17 years of experience working across the sub Saharan African region in food security, resilience and disaster reduction fields with the United Nations and Non-Governmental bodies. He has a post graduate diploma in intensive crop production from Galilee Institute in Israel, a bachelors degree in information science(Moi), a Master of Science in disaster management and sustainable development(Masinde Muliro University), Master of Arts( University of Nairobi) and he is now a Ph.D. graduand (the University of Nairobi Class of 2020).
He has written a novel entitled, The Goat and published several academic papers in refereed journals.

Thesis Title
Community Resilience Capacity, Environmental Factors and Performance of Food Security Projects in Loima Sub County, Turkana County, in Kenya
Thesis Abstract
In spite of efforts by state and non-state agencies to respond to crises in the horn of Africa, underlying vulnerabilities and low resilience capacities in the region have continued to push majority of the populations in a state of chronic food insecurity. This research was therefore designed to examine community resilience capacity on the performance of food security projects as moderated by environment factors in Loima sub-county, Turkana County, Kenya. The findings of the study indicated that social capital, disaster management skills, community resource capacity, social safety nets and environmental factors influenced community resilience and food security of the population. The study recommended that in order to build a resilient community in any context, investments should be prioritized to enhance self-reliance for community resilience.
