Having Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication from Technical University of Mombasa an interest in Project management led Asha Bekidusa to enroll in the University of Nairobi for a Masters of Arts in Project Planning and Management. This is after working in designing several community projects and decides to gain more skills and knowledge so as to professionally work on them. A master’s degree can prepare one to take on additional project management responsibility within an organization and allows you to explore ways of becoming a strategic leader while understanding different methodologies that you can carry out for your business. Asha Bekidusa is a journalist and also works on several community projects in Kwale and Mombasa counties in Empowering women and girls. Through case studies and capstone projects, she continues to learn from experts in the field as well as gain real-world project management experience.

Influence of School Feeding Program on the Retention of Learners in Public Primary Schools in Kenya; A Case of Mombasa County

 

School feeding programmes are often designed to enhance academic performance and cognitive development. Improved nutritional status of school-age children leads to better attention and cognition, and thus, better educational outcome. The study sought to find out how school feeding programme influence the retention of learners in public primary school; Four objectives guided this study including sustainability of feeding, alleviation of short term hunger, also quality of milk and finally the frequency of meals. School feeding can improve attentiveness in class by reducing short-term hunger many children come to school on an empty stomach, yet they remain surrounded by the distracting and disturbing facets of the crisis. The researcher employed the use of descriptive survey design. The target population of the study comprised 50 preprimary school teachers and 10 head teachers. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, which included frequency distributions, their mean and standard deviation and represented using figures and tables. The study concludes that sustainable feeding program as a school feeding program, alleviation of short term hunger , quality of milk and finally the frequency of meals as a school feeding program initiative highly influences the retention of learners in public primary schools. The study recommends that the ministry of education should review the School feeding Programme and extend it upper primary classes. They should prioritize supply of food to ensure continuous provision and adequate supply of food for pupils.
